AMC St. John 2003 -- Week 1 Part A
Day 1, Tuesday February 4 ~ Enroute We leave home early in the morning. Five of us meet at Newark airport where we are informed that our flight is delayed. We get rerouted to a flight to Boston. In Boston we meet up with 10 other participants. Others flew from Hartford and Philadelphia. We all gathered in the baggage area of the St. Thomas airport where we identified each other by our yellow baggage tags. About 3:30 Roy arrived and loaded our baggage and us for the ride through Charlotte Amalie to Red Hook. After a number of phone calls, Varlack provided a special ferry at 5:30 that took us to Cruz Bay. Then we went to Cinnamon Bay Campground which would be our home and base for the next two weeks. We arrived at 6:45pm, just as it was getting dark. Most had dinner at the Campground restaurant, T'Ree Lizards Restaurant.

Day 2, Wednesday February 5 ~ Getting Settled In the morning as it did many times on subsequent days there were brief showers and everyone had a chance to get settled. The drivers (Don, Lois, Ralph, Jenni, and Myrna) went in to Cruz Bay to get our rental jitneys. After lunch our one and only group meeting was held in Group Area "A". Don and Lois described the plans and announcements for the entire two weeks. After the meeting the vehicles left for Cruz Bay to give everyone a chance to go shopping for groceries and other essentials. In between folks had time for a swim or snorkel at Cinnamon Bay's lovely sand beach. At 5:00 pm there was a get acquainted Happy Hour in Area "A" with snacks provided by the leaders. It was a good opportunity for meeting the new campers and renewing friendships.
