Iceland Days 13 -15
Day 13, Thursday June 12 ~ Hike to and around Krafla
Ralph, Jenni and Martin made a leisurely loop hike around Krafla, an active thermal area. They also visited the crater Vik (Icelandic for Hell). Later they watched birds at Myvatn and relaxed. The rest of the group hiked to Krafla from town. Near Krafla was a large steam/thermal plant. The weather was raw and cold and it even snowed.
In the late afternoon most of the gang went and took a steam bath built on a thermal vent. At dinner we serenaded Ingi with a song in his honor, gave him some mementos and ended with blueberry cheesecake.

Day 14, Friday June 13 ~ Drive to Reykjavik
After an early start we started driving west. We stopped along the Laxa river to watch some birds. Then we stopped to see the waterfall Godafoss. We had some time to walk around the town of Akureyri and do some shopping.

Along side the road near a river we sat on some rocks for a picnic lunch and took a group picture (see Main page). Mid-afternoon we had an ice cream stop at a road side stand. The next break gave us time to walked to the top of a crater.
After several phone calls we pulled off on the side of the road and we met Ingi's father who was going the other way. About 7:30pm we arrived at our guest house in Reykjavik. Most walked to town for their last Icelandic dinner with incredible desserts.
Day 15, Saturday June 14 ~ Free morning in Reykjavik and return home
