Iceland Days 11 -12
Day 11, Tuesday June 10 ~ Northeastern Iceland, Dettifoss, and Namafjall Hverir
| We left our hotel in the rain and spent most of the day driving. In the town of Eskijfjordur we variously went to the bank, the post office, and a supermarket. Later in the rest area of an information place we found the repaired trailer. We drove through very desolate terrain that Ingi said had been used by the astronauts for training. |

Lunch was at a picnic area besides a river. We made a side trip to the Dettifoss falls and gorge.

Then we went to Namafjall Hverir, an active hot springs area, before going to our lodging in the Myvatn town of Reykjahlid. |

Day 12, Wednesday June 11 ~ Around Myvatn
In the morning the group went to the west side of Myvatn. Most of the group climbed Mt. Vindbelgur. Ralph, Jenni and Ed walked along the shore to watch the birds which included Scaup, Tufted Duck, Loons, Red-necked Phalarope and more. Everyone ended at a bird-watching tent. Lunch was in the common room of the guest house.
| In the afternoon we did a loop walk at Demmuborgir going over and around the black lava. |

From Demmuborgir most then hiked to and climbed up the Hverfjall cinder cone. Ralph, Jenni, and Ingi drove around and climbed up the other side and met the group on top. Then most hiked through a rain storm to an active fissure. Shortly afterwards many went swimming and hot tubbing outside.
