August 30 - Franz Senn Hutte

Today we were picked up by two taxis which took us up a side valley from Milders to the end of the road at Oberissalm at 1742m. From there we followed a trail that continued up the valley and then went up innumerable rocky zigzags to a higher valley and the Alpeineralm. We paused only briefly here and continued up the valley along a rocky trail that followed a roaring glacial stream to the century old Franz Senn Hutte at 2147m.

We had lunch at the Franz Senn Hutte.

There were marvelous views up the glacial valley toward higher peaks.

A few continued up a steep trail toward a lake over a ridge.

Many sheep roamed the hillside.

While at the hut we  suddenly heard a bunch of shouting and it was three farmers and a couple of dogs herding their cows down from an upper pasture to a lower one near the Alpeineralm because of the impending weather. Rain and snow were predicted.

For a movie of the farmer and his dogs click here.

We hurried down to beat the weather.

A goldcrest, a warbler, was spotted along the trail.

As we reached the Oberissalm it started to sprinkle.
