February 18 - Milford Track - Day 4

This is to be our last day on the Track; it’s 13 miles (21km) of varied terrain, slightly downhill through the Arthur Valley, with no significant climbing.   When we awoke the weather was still very heavy, gray and wet.  Fortunately, by mid-morning the weather cleared.  However, the trail was still wet and the forest very lush and with many weird plants.

A rest stop at the "Boatshed".

A short side trail brought us to Bell Rock, a large rock that looks like a bell as it has been hollowed out by flowing water.

We continued to follow the Arnold River,

until we reached the end of the Milford Track at Sandfly Point.

Here also was a waiting room where one was protected from the sand flies while

awaiting the ferry for a short cruise

to the jetty at the end of Milford Sound.

The Mitre Peak Lodge where we stayed.

Happy Hour with

a view of Mitre Peak.
