September 5 - Nurnberger Hutte

In the morning it was gray and foggy. The weather forecast we got from the web was not good. However, the locals said it would be a good day.  So we got the bus that went up the valley from in front of the Kindergarten. Just before our bus came, a bus labeled Kindergarten arrived.  Apparently it was the first day of school for them.

Eight of us got to the trail head with an altitude of about 1360m and started uphill on an old road.  In about an hour we reached the Besuch Alm, 1580m, which is in a large glacial cirque.  We stopped there briefly to use the WC and refill water bottles.  Shortly we encountered quite a few goats.

Approaching the Besuch Alm.

Chapel adjacent to the Alm.

As we left the Alm to walk through the valley we heard a lot of shouting higher up. Three men and perhaps a couple of dogs were herding sheep from some higher field to the pens at the Alm.

Shortly we encountered quite a few goats.  At the end of the valley we started switch-backing up the right side fairly steeply.  About then, three members of the group decided they had enough and turned around to go down.

We had wonderful views of the valley below.

We noted significant berms on the uphill side of all structures; presumably to protect from avalanches.

Upon reaching the ridge one could see into the next basin and the Nurnberger Hutte.

In the basin was a roaring stream.

The path to the hut was quite rocky.

At the hut we had lunch.  Richard and Ginette shared Kaiserschmarm.

Joe had Bratwurst and Kartofelsalat.

The views were great.
