Little Tobago

Mid morning we gathered at the dock and then boarded Frank's Glass Bottom Boat for our trip to Little Tobago.

First we headed out to a reef near Goat Island.  Beneath the boat we saw many different kinds of fish and a very large brain coral.

After disembarking our guide led us on a trail through the forest up to the ridge of Little Tobago Island.  He pointed out a variety of interesting plants as we went.

A bromeliad

Near the top was a view back across Goat Island toward Tobago and

The Blue Waters Inn on Bateaux Bay

This is Red Powderpuff, Calliandra haematocephala.

Over the crest of the ridge we reached a viewing platform that looked out over the cliff on the east side of the Island toward the Atlantic.  Red-billed tropic birds and magnificent frigate birds were flying about.  The tropic birds nest on the nearby cliffs.

Most amazing was that some of the red-billed tropic birds were nesting immediately near by.  Note the very long tail and red bill.

We returned on the same trail.

Blue-crowned Motmot

An at the moment unidentified plant.

A green lizard

On the way back the boat stopped over the reef and we enjoyed a drift snorkel.
