Powerscourt and the Wicklow Way

In the morning we were met by Dennis, our driver/guide.  We climbed aboard his bus and he took us south from Dublin to the County of Wicklow.  We visited the Powerscourt House and its extensive gardens.

With hopes that the drizzle that had been descending would abate, Dennis brought us near a road crossing with the Wicklow Way.  This is Ireland's oldest long distance trail.  About half of the Wicklow Way follows roads but this 7-mile section is an open trail over the shoulder of Djounce Mountain.  After about a mile we had wonderful views through the fog of the Powerscourt Waterfall.  Unfortunately, the weather deteriorated and the hike became an adventure to remember.  A few spent the afternoon in a pub with Dennis.

The weather got worse and worse and the camera's were put away.

That night we had dinner at the Woodenbridge Hotel in Avoca where we stayed for two nights
