Siena and San Gimignano

Friday evening when we arrived at our hotel in Siena, we with the assistance of the front desk clerk made numerous attempts to reach Air France to inquire about our suitcase and clothes.  All attempts failed, so we went out to a local store and purchased some toiletries and underwear.  Saturday morning we finally got through and were told that it was now in Rome but could not be delivered to us until Monday since they do not deliver on weekends.  Our complaints went unanswered.  So we concluded that we had to go clothes shopping in a city that we hadn't been in before and where all stores closed at 1pm.  Miraculously, after running from one side of downtown to the other inquiring for "sport clothing" (after all we were on a hiking trip) we found a shop that carried US-made Columbia clothing and they even had some tall sizes for Ralph.

After that we spent the rest of the day sightseeing.

In the morning we left Siena and drove to San Gimignano where we spent just a short while sightseeing in this unusual and well preserved medieval town.  Although built mainly of brick it has some 14 grey stone towers and is enclosed in a fortified wall.  Then we drove to Florence and returned our rental car.
